Running Away From Social Issues by Republicans Is Totally Illogical

WPAAG: The philosophy that running away from social issues will help the Republican Party, expressed by Dennis Milligan (the only candidate who has expressed interest in taking Gilbert Baker's place as Chair of the Republican Party) is totally illogical. First, that philosophy runs counter to actual facts enumerated below. Second, anyone stating that philosophy has not counted the costs of such a move. In fact, that philosophy is just as absurd and dangerous as is Democrat Harry Reid's public statement that we've already lost the war in Iraq. . . .

If Republicans lose this war on social issues, then we will have one of two choices: give up our Christian values or be persecuted and go to jail for them. If that statement seems too strong, just consider that on a 9 to 4 vote the Democrats on the US Rules committee just defeated a proposed amendment exempting the reading of the Bible from hate crime prosecution. The words of that amendment read, "to clarify that the printing, distribution, or public reading of the Bible is not prohibited by any of the provisions of the [hate crime] bill," If that is not scary, what is? And hundreds of students in California were suspended for wearing Bible verses on their shirts in California just recently. [Read More]

Response to Senator Blanche Lincoln Email Saying She Supports Hate Crime Bill

Arkansas based Women's Prayer and Action Group have responded to an email by Arkansas U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln sent constituents. "Senator Lincoln, you said in your email that you support the hate crime bill. Are you aware that under the proposed hate crime bill an offender could be punished more severely for violent speech against a homosexual with the NAMBLA group (a group that actually encourages molesting children) than for violating an innocent child. According to FBI reports, there were only 6 murders related to hate crimes in 2005, but there are 2,000 children under 18 murdered every year." (Senator Lincoln co-sponsored the hate crime bill in 2001 and is a co-sponsor of the hate crime bill this year. She voted to add sexual orientation to the definition of hate crimes in 2000 and 2002, and voted against the federal marriage amendment in 2006.) [Read More]

Senate may open debate on immigration next week
Appear eager to pass comprehensive immigration reform that includes amnesty

The Senate is expected to open a debate on the issue of immigration next week in an effort to pass an immigration bill which will grant millions of illegal aliens a path to citizenship (amnesty). President Bush is pressing hard on this issue and trying to take full advantage of a senate and a house controlled by Democrats and some Republicans that are very eager to pass some kind of comprehensive immigration reform (amnesty).

The Congress and Illegal Immigration website identifies that "this is not a Republican or Democrat Issue. it is an American Issue, your country is being invaded and it needs you. . . .
We can not allow those sellouts in Washington to continue destroying our country, enough is enough, our cities are turning into 3rd world slums, our emergency rooms and hospitals are closing, our education system is failing our kids, our streets are filled with illegal alien gang members, our citizens are being killed by the dozens by illegal alien drunk drivers, our jails are over filled and criminals are being release early, it is barely enough for our home grown criminals. We are spending billions of dollars on Food stamps, subsidized housing, free medical services and other welfare programs for the illegals and their anchor babies . . . [Read More]

Analyst says Duncan Hunter has best chance to move into top tier

Keith Thompson, an author and political analyst believes that Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) has the best chance of moving into the top tier of GOP presidential hopefuls as the ten candidates prepare for the next televised debate. Rudy's party – or Reagan's?

by Pat Buchanan: "After months of conflicting signals on abortion, Rudolph W. Giuliani is planning to offer a forthright affirmation of his support for abortion rights in public forums, television appearances and interviews in coming days," writes the New York Times. If true, it marks either the beginning of the end of the Giuliani campaign -- or the beginning of the end of the Party of Ronald Reagan.

For Reagan's party was a pro-life party. Life defined the man. Life defined the movement he led. It was Reagan who insisted that his speechwriters include mention of the life issue in every State of the Union. . . . Since Reagan, whatever GOP nominees have believed privately, they ran as pro-life candidates. If Rudy were to be nominated as a pro-choice Republican, millions would stay home or vote third party. For it was the life issue that brought them into the party, or kept them there when they disagreed with the party on almost everything else . . . [Read More]

12 Illegals arrested at Camp Robinson in Little Rock
Democrat's remove critical protection from Homeland Security bill

Yesterday: 12 Mexican Illegals are arrested working at Camp Robinson in Little Rock, home of the Arkansas National Guard. Just , two days ago, a House Democrat plan pulled the plug on future funding of the program which allowed the arrests to happen.

Arkansas U.S. Rep. John Boozman today voiced concern over a recently-passed Democratic Homeland Security plan in light of the arrests of a dozen illegal immigrants at Camp Joseph T. Robinson Army National Guard Base in Little Rock. Nine males, two females and one juvenile male were arrested. They were employed by two different companies performing contract work at the base. According to a press release from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the arrests stemmed from ICE’s mission to “target illegal workers with access to critical infrastructure worksites” including U.S. military installations.

The Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) program was gutted earlier this week from a Democrat-backed Homeland Security plan HR 1684 which passed the House. CIP investigations are generally predicated upon the threat to national security posed by unauthorized workers employed in critical infrastructure related facilities. “This is a real-world example of why this plan passed by House Democrats was a bad idea,” Boozman said. “I thank ICE and Camp Robinson for their due diligence in ensuring the security at our state’s National Guard headquarters, and one of the nation’s largest state-operated training sites.” “Protecting places like Camp Robinson is extremely important, and the stripping of a key Homeland Security tool – along with others in the authorization bill – weakens America’s security.”

In addition to the CIPs program, the House Democrats removed critical provisions that key tools used to secure the nation’s borders, immigration checks for employees at critical infrastructure jobs, biometric identification of illegal aliens, and rejection of the authorization of the 287(g) program – both of which weaken border security and neglect recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. Under the voluntary 287(g) program the federal government reimburses state and local authorities for expenses related to immigration enforcement training. The 9/11 Commission identified the growing role for state and local law enforcement agencies who need more training and to work with federal agencies so that they can cooperate more effectively with those federal authorities. Without federal money, local police have no way to pay for this additional training and, therefore, pass it up. This weakens local capabilities, weakens our communities, and weakens the homeland.

"Yesterday, illegal aliens from Mexico were the ones arrested, thanks to a program left on the cutting room floor this time around,” Boozman said. “In the future, we won’t be able to know if it was an illegal alien or an al-Qaeda operative because we wouldn’t be able to check, thanks to the new Homeland Security plan put together by the Democrat leadership.”

Pro Football Player Booted from Team for His Christian Values [Audio]

CWA: Christian wide receiver Troy Vermillion has been released from the roster of the Colorado Ice, an indoor football team based in the Greeley, Colorado area. The release came following a disagreement between Vermillion and the coaching staff over pornographic films shown on the team bus. Vermillion, wishing not to be exposed to the material, asked to be allowed to travel in other team vehicles, but was denied. Instead, he was released. Hilda Vermillion, Troy’s wife, shares his story; the story of a Christian husband and father paying a high price for his efforts to honor Christ. Matt Barber, CWA’s Policy Director for Cultural Issues spoke with Hilda, who shares Troy’s testimony and how you can support the family in prayer. Listen Download

"American" Jihad, Courtesy of the Open Borders Lobby

by Ben Johnson: Most of the mainstream media have grudgingly reported that three of the six Muslim extremists arrested Tuesday for plotting to attack Fort Dix are illegal aliens. Agents are now investigating whether they were smuggled across the border – and whether the others lied on their immigration papers to stay in the country. However, not one major outlet has mentioned the fact that the ACLU, People for the American Way, and other pillars of the Open Borders Lobby opened a major battlefront in the jihadists’ backyard in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, to prevent city officials from evicting illegals like them . . . Counties voted to ban all prayers that invoke "the name of Jesus"

FRCAction Update: Rather than fight an expensive, drawn-out lawsuit from the ACLU, two North Carolina counties have voted to ban all prayers that invoke "the name of Jesus." Yesterday, despite a room filled to capacity with Bible-bearing citizens, the Yadkin County Board followed in the footsteps of neighboring Forsyth County and caved to pressure to offer only nonsectarian prayers. The Alliance Defense Fund is fighting a similar battle in Transylvania County, N.C., where the Board stood up to the ACLU and voted unanimously to preserve its tradition of opening meetings in prayer. For too long, groups like the ACLU have intimidated public officials into surrendering their constitutional rights because of a misinterpretation of the Establishment Clause. To stop these anti-religion opportunists in their tracks, contact your leaders and ask them to sponsor the Public Expression of Religion Act, now before Congress. This bill would ensure that no monetary damages, costs, or attorney's fees would be awarded to the litigants who bring cases against a local or state official who expresses or accommodates religion. Don't 'Shortchange' Our Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan

Contact Congress Now And Urge A "No" Vote on HR 2206

by Steve Robertson, Director, Legislative Div., Amercian Legion: We understand the House leadership is developing a short-term defense supplemental appropriations bill that will provide $42.8 billion dollars to the Pentagon; $30.4 billion dollars of that will be for funding war operations and maintenance. The bill includes restrictive language on the conduct of the war in Iraq and funding for unrelated domestic spending as well. However the biggest problem with this bill is it only funds the war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan until July. The fiscal year, however, does not end until September 30.

Clearly, this is an ill-advised and impractical bill that should not be supported by the American public. Our troops deserve full funding for their military operations through the rest of the fiscal year. It is anticipated the House will vote on this bill on Thursday or Friday. All Americans concerned for our troops are urged to contact Congress and tell their lawmakers not to ‘nickel and dime’ our troops and the war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan by passing a bill that will expire in three months. We believe our military leaders and our troops need full funding for military operations for the remainder of the fiscal year.
Please address that 1) Congress should pass a defense supplemental appropriations bill that provides full funding for our troops through the fiscal year ending on September 30. 2) The bill should be a ‘clean’ appropriations bill; without funding for unrelated domestic spending and without placing Congressional restrictions on our military leadership and troops on the conduct of the war. Six Good Reasons to Revisit Immigration Policy

by Tony Perkins, FRC: After arresting six radical Muslims with plans to massacre soldiers at Fort Dix in New Jersey, FBI special agent J.P Weiss said it best when he told reporters, "We dodged a bullet. In fact... we may have dodged several bullets." Unfortunately, what few seem to realize is that without serious immigration reform, Americans may not be quite so blessed next time. Of those accused in the Fort Dix terror plot, three are in the United States illegally. While we applaud the government for intercepting these men, the reality is that at least half of them should have been intercepted much sooner through our regular system of safeguards. Will it take another massive loss of innocent human life before Congress wakes up and recognizes the threat posed by our porous policies? As the House and Senate prioritize their issues for the coming month, this near-tragedy should put illegal immigration on the forefront of everyone's minds. We must confront radical Islam head-on, rather than pretending that it doesn't have an agenda. All too often Americans seem more fearful of offending people than they are of a devastating terrorist attack. Join us in urging Congress to promote true immigration reform that puts national security--not political correctness--first.

Will the real Ronald Reagan please stand up?

by Janet Folger, Faith2Action: Hello, I'm Ronald Reagan. No, I'm Ronald Reagan. Me too! Me too! And so in the Reagan Library the Republican debates begin. Will the real Ronald Reagan please stand up? Let's start by disqualifying the easy ones . . . Former Gov. James Gilmore admitted he's for legally aborting children up to 12 weeks . . . for keeping 90% of the killing legal. . . . Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. He's for keeping 100% of the killing legal. . . Reagan who said, "We have the duty to protect the life of an unborn child." Giuliani's not even close to Ronald Reagan, a pro-lifer who actually liked the Christians in the Republican Party. . . . Former Gov. Mitt Romney, . . . the most anti-Catholic candidate of all, . . . said Catholics should be able to "do whatever they want." Really? Then why did Romney: Force Catholic hospitals in MA to hand out the abortion drug "Plan B" or close their doors? Ignore the Catholic Action League who lobbied for a conscience clause so Catholic civil service workers wouldn't be forced to perform same-sex "marriage" ceremonies? . . . Tell Boston's largest adoption agency, Catholic Charities, they had to place vulnerable orphan children in the homes of homosexual activists . . . Boston Catholic Charities closed their doors. Force Catholics (and other pro-life people) to fund abortions in his (post-conversion) health-care plan? . . . Ronald Reagan said, "Facts are stubborn things." . . . Romney. . . you're disqualified. . . . Sen. John McCain, who used to be pro-life, but now wants to fund embryonic stem cell research. . . . McCain then said, "in retrospect" the judicial activism that starved Terri Schiavo to death was something that should have gone unchecked. . . . If they treated prisoners of war as badly as they treated Schiavo, John McCain wouldn't be here. Sit down, Mr. McCain, without even bringing up your campaign-finance "reform" gag rule, you're disqualified. . . . Former Gov. Tommy Thompson . . . couldn't give "a yes or no answer" to funding embryonic stem cell research . . . Thompson wants churches, Christian day cares, the Boy Scouts and business owners who are morally opposed to homosexuality to be forced to keep homosexual activists (how else do we know they're homosexual?) on the payroll - even if it violates their conscience, purpose and children in their care. Wrong answer; sit down, Tommy.

The above five candidates represent the status quo. Reagan put it this way: "Status quo, you know, that is Latin for 'the mess we're in.'"
Of those declared, when it comes to the Reagan Republicans, only five candidates have a Republican leg to stand on: Sen. Sam Brownback, Former Gov. Mike Huckabee, Rep. Duncan Hunter, Rep. Ron Paul, Rep. Tom Tancredo . . . [Read More]

Giuliani: Putting His Money Where His Mouth Isn't

FRCActionUpdate: Just how much does GOP hopeful Rudy Giuliani truly "hate abortion"? According to public records, the former mayor's "objections" to the procedure didn't stop him from making personal contributions to Planned Parenthood, the largest U.S. abortion provider, in 1993, 1994, 1998, and 1999. Giuliani, who hopes to overcome his pro-abortion image and win the support of social conservatives, is finding that task difficult. His private donations undercut his public statements, including his recent comment that he would "counsel a woman to have an adoption instead of an abortion." Planned Parenthood clinics excel only at the latter. When asked how Giuliani reconciles his public opposition with his behind-the-scenes support, a staffer had the audacity to suggest that he should be applauded for "standing by his position." Which position? See Also: Rudy Giuliani Made Many Donations to Planned Parenthood Abortion Business

Feds Bust 6 in Alleged 'Jihad' Plot to Kill U.S. Soldiers in U.S.

Fox News: . . . six men - five of whom lived in Cherry Hill, a Philadelphia suburb about 20 miles from Fort Dix - were arrested Monday night while trying to buy AK-47 assault weapons, M-16s and other weapons from an FBI informant . . . In addition to plotting the attack on Fort Dix, the defendants spoke of attacking a Navy installation in Philadelphia during the annual Army-Navy football game and conducted surveillance at other military installations in the region . . . One defendant, Eljvir Duka, was recorded as saying: "In the end, when it comes to defending your religion, when someone ... attacks your religion, your way of life, then you go jihad." "It doesn't matter to me whether I get locked up, arrested or get taken away," another defendant, Serdar Tatar, was alleged to have said. "Or I die, it doesn't matter. I'm doing it in the name of Allah." . . . Four of the men were born in the former Yugoslavia, one was born in Jordan and one came from Turkey, authorities said. All had lived in the United States for years. Three were in the United States illegally; two had green cards allowing them to stay in this country permanently; and the sixth is a U.S. citizen. Israeli Archaeologist Found Tomb of King Herod

FoxNews: JERUSALEM - An Israeli archaeologist on Tuesday said he has found the tomb of King Herod the Great, the legendary builder of ancient Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Hebrew University archaeologist Ehud Netzer said the tomb was found at Herodium, a flattened hilltop in the Judean Desert where Herod the Great built a palace compound. Netzer has been working at the site since the 1970s. Netzer said the tomb was discovered when a team of researchers found pieces of a limestone sarcophagus believed to belong to the ancient king . . . Road runner Huckabee looks to pick up the pace

By Dave Turbide, Union Leader: The metaphor couldn't have been more obvious, but Mike Huckabee couldn't resist. Lining up to run the Seven Hills of Somersworth 5K road raced yesterday (5/5/07), the former Arkansas governor and current Republican Presidential candidate described the election process as more of a marathon than a sprint. "Running (a road race) is such a great metaphor for politics," said Huckabee, before running the 3.1-mile race with former 1st District congressman Jeb Bradley. "The runners who rush out early and get a quick lead are not necessarily the ones that win the race. A runner and a candidate must set out at a pace that they can maintain. As I like to say: 'My race, my pace.' " . . .

"New Hampshire voters will pick the candidates, not someone in a (television) studio or someone who can just write a big check," he said, taking a brief break from greeting fellow runners, supporters and prospective voters outside Somersworth Middle School. The recent trend of other states moving their Presidential primaries closer to New Hampshire's has produced a front-loaded schedule that short-changes the voters, he said. "People should be able to ask the candidates questions in small groups. You don't want to lose the grass roots in New Hampshire and other states, the people-to-people contact. When money becomes the prime criterion for selecting a President, that will be a terrible day in this country. The election process as it stands now, a state-by-state over a period of time, tests the mettle of the candidate. Having all the primaries at one time would be detrimental to the process. Candidates have to be given the opportunity to prove themselves over time." [Read More]

So Much for 'Mother' Earth

by Tony Perkins, Family Research Council: According to radical environmentalists, the biggest threat to the earth isn't CO2 emissions or climate change--it's children. A new paper by Optimum Population Trust (OPT) contends that kids are "bad for the planet" and if couples had one less child, they could "cut their family's carbon dioxide output by the equivalent of 620 [cross-Atlantic flights]." Rather than follow their own dreams of having a family, John Guillebaud, co-chairman of OPT, said that potential parents should first consider the environmental consequences. Another eco-militant, Paul Watson, founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, is calling for a green genocide. In a May 4 editorial, Watson says mankind "is acting like a virus" and appeals for the world to decrease its population by more than five billion. In the past, Watson has come under fire for claiming that humans are "the AIDS of the earth." Rhetoric like this, fueled by profound pessimism about human possibility, is driving demographic collapse in much of the West, where sub-replacement level fertility is on a collision course with pension liabilities, especially in Europe. Even Al Gore, who this weekend spoke to the American Institute of Architects, resorted to calling the alleged bio-threat a "spiritual crisis." In this he is half-right as the key to this eco-pessimism is despair. The "green" campaign, elevated to a fever pitch by Gore and others who advocate a stronger hand for government, is paving the way for the dire messages of organizations like OPT and Sea Shepherd. I have to ask, if we take their advice and quit having children, just who exactly would we be saving the earth for? [Read More] See Also: Children 'bad for planet'

Arkansas GOP to Hold Special Election May 19

The Arkansas Republican Party will hold a special election on May 19 for Chair of the Arkansas Republican Party. The person elected will replace Gilbert Baker. So far only State GOP treasurer and Saline County Republican Chairman Dennis Milligan has officially expressed interest. Milligan said he believes he can help the party re-energize its supporters by focusing on fiscal, rather than social, issues. In last year's election, the state GOP often ran on social hot-button issues such as illegal immigration, gay marriage and abortion. Milligan said, "Focus on less taxes and smaller government, some of the core issues that we believe in. I think the voters spoke very strongly. A lot of our people at the ballot box did express their unhappiness with the direction that the Republican Party was headed."

Last month, at a Searcy County Lincoln Day Dinner, Rep. Mike Lamoureux (R-Russellville) said that he intended to run for this position. No mention was made of Lamoureux's interest in an AP news article. Lamoureux recently has been identified recently as one of three attorneys being considered to replace Tim Griffin as chief federal prosecutor in Little Rock. Per the Arkansas News Bureau, Lamoureux, 30, said he may not pursue the appointment because of the time issue. A former House minority leader, Lamoureux is in his third and final term as a state representative."I would need to visit with a lot of people before I'm interested or not," he said. "If I was going to serve for two or three months, it wouldn't make any sense."

The Do-Nothing Congress -- Democrats' Momentum Is Stalling

Not a single priority on the Democrats' agenda has been enacted, and some in the party are growing nervous that the 'do nothing' tag they slapped on Republicans last year could come back to haunt them."
"The voters seem to have noticed the stall. An ABC News-Washington Post poll last month found that 73 percent of Americans believe Congress has done 'not too much' or 'nothing at all.'"
Democrats' Momentum Is Stalling
Amid Iraq Debate, Priorities On Domestic Agenda Languish

by Jonathan Weisman and Lyndsey Layton, Washington Post: In the heady opening weeks of the 110th Congress, the Democrats' domestic agenda appeared to be flying through the Capitol: Homeland security upgrades, a higher minimum wage and student loan interest rate cuts all passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. But now that initial progress has foundered as Washington policymakers have been consumed with the debate over the Iraq war. Not a single priority on the Democrats' agenda has been enacted, and some in the party are growing nervous that the "do nothing" tag they slapped on Republicans last year could come back to haunt them. . . . Not one of those bills has been signed into law. . . . But beyond a huge domestic spending bill that wrapped up work left undone by Republicans last year, the list of achievements is modest. . . Vive La France, Sort of

by Saber Point: "Nicolas Sarkozy has won the Presidency of France with 53% of the vote. He defeated a Socialist, Segolene Royal. For the Socialists, it was a Royal defeat (sorry, couldn't resist). Sarkozy is said to be pro USA and a conservative. However, his first comments to the United States included the remark that we should not back away from Global Warming. Since man-made Global Warming is nothing more than a scheme to redistribute wealth from the US to less developed countries, this is not a good sign.
However, any defeat of a Socialist, anywhere, is far better than the other way around. How anyone can still believe in this foul ideology is beyond me, an ideology that impoverishes everyone, refuses to resist tyranny and sinks a nation into an awful, gray mediocrity where economic opportunity all but disappears. But anyway, Sarkozy is a step in the right direction (namely, to the right) and I applaud the French for their decision. Vive La France! How I would love to see that once great civilization resume its rightful place among the nations of the West." [Saber Point is linked on the ARRA News Service]

Urge Congress to work with the President to pass a clean bill that funds our troops

by Mike Duncan, RNC Chair: Last week, the Democrat-led House and Senate - despite a veto promise from the President - passed a so-called war funding bill that handcuffs our generals in Iraq, insists on a surrender date, and contains billions of dollars in pork spending unrelated to the war. What is most amazing is that it took 80 days from the date the President requested this emergency troop funding for Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to finalize their flawed version of the legislation, and another five days for Pelosi to deliver the bill to the President. Just hours after receiving the legislation, the President fulfilled his promise to veto the bill and sent it back to Pelosi and Reid. Tuesday night, President Bush laid out his reasons for vetoing this bill, and renewed his commitment to work with leaders of both parties to pass clean legislation which supports our troops. Before the bill even arrived at the White House, leading Democrats had signaled their unwillingness to compromise. Click Here to see Sen. Joe Biden tell supporters that they were going to "shove" the bill "down [the President's] throat." Biden, the man once called "the Democrat's expert on foreign policy" by Sen. Harry Reid, was proven wrong again when Pelosi's attempt to force an override of the President's veto was soundly defeated in the House.

One of the things that sets us apart from the Islamic fascists is that we believe in freedom of speech and open political debate. But, I truly believe that most Americans, whether they are Republicans, Democrats, or Independents, believe that we owe it to our men and women in uniform to support them in every way possible. Delaying an emergency funding bill that they desperately need while introducing more partisan legislation is not what we expect from any of our political leaders, no matter which party they belong to. Contact your Congressman and Senator. Urge them to work with the President to pass a clean bill that funds our troops, trusts our military commanders, and helps keep the American people safe.
